VNA Philadelphia Announces New Chief Operating Officer

Walter W. Borginis, III, President and CEO of VNA Philadelphia announced that Elwood (Woody) Hungarter, RN, BSN, MS, has been named the agency’s new Chief Operating Officer. “Woody is a great addition for us. He has great clinical experience in both home health and hospice as well as a first hand entrepreneurial outlook on strengthening and growing our operations. He will have a lot to contribute to our efforts to continuously improve our programs.”

Hungarter was most recently the Administrator of HCR Manor Care/Heartland Home Care and Hospice in Blue Bell, Pennsylvania where he was responsible for the success of the agency by every measure.

For his role in the newly created COO position, Hungarter will also serve as the director of Clinical Operations overseeing all aspects of the home-health care, palliative, and hospice care that VNA Philadelphia provides. The job was created as the Agency rededicates itself to ensuring that our constituents: our patients and their families, our referral sources, and our employees experience the VNA Difference in care. “Providing home health and hospice is a unique field,” he notes. “We provide care to people at their most vulnerable time in their lives.”

Woody lives in Quakertown on a 10 acre farm with his wife, Donna, their Australian Shepherd puppy, Rylee, and an assortment of horses, cats, fish, and other wildlife.

VNS Names Two to Its Board

 

Walter W. Borginis, III, President and CEO of the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Philadelphia Hospice of Philadelphia announced that B.A. (Mackie) MacLean, Jr. and William L. (Bill) Stulginksy were named to the Board of Directors of the Visiting Nurse Society.

MacLean, Jr., is Managing Partner of Diversified Search, which is joined in 1992. His 25 plus year search career has encompassed assignments for major investment and commercial banks, national consulting and investment companies, as well as senior level work in manufacturing, technology, healthcare, education and nonprofit, He has served as Chairman of the Board of the Academy of Vocal Arts as well as on the Executive Committee of the Board of Trustees for the Philadelphia Zoo.

Stulginsky served as a Partner of PricewaterhouseCoopers LLP until September 2009. He has more than 36 years of public accounting experience. He worked at PricewaterhouseCoopers and predecessor firms for 24 years prior to his retirement. He has served as a Director of China Holdings Ceramics Co, Ltd. and as a Member of the Board of Trustees at Main Line Health, Inc and Fox Chase Cancer Center.

The VNS manages endowed funds that support, in perpetuity, the indispensible patient care of the Visiting Nurse Association of Greater Philadelphia and the education and development of its clinical staff. It willingly and generously takes on the burden of many people unable to pay for their own care.

VNA  of Greater Philadelphia Hospice of Philadelphia President and CEO Made Member of the Home Care and Hospice Hall of Fame

The President and CEO of the VNA of Greater Philadelphia Hospice of Philadelphia, Walter W. Borginis, III, received the Florence Nightingale Award and Membership into the Home Care and Hospice Hall of Fame from the National Association for Home Care and Hospice (NAHC).

The presentation of the award, including the formal induction ceremony will take place in October  at the 34th Annual NAHC meeting, the largest annual gathering of home care and hospice caregivers in the world.

NAHC President, Val Halamandaris, says “Walter Borginis is the visionary leader and CEO of the VNA of Greater Philadelphia where he previously served as CFO. His history making reinvention of the VNA has marked him as an expert who has used these talents to help others including guiding NAHC through five years as its treasurer.”

Honorees named to the Home Care and Hospice Hall of Fame since 1982 include Mother Teresa of Calcutta, Senator Edward M. Kennedy, Senator Robert Dole, Rosalynn Carter, President William Clinton, and Diana, Princess of Wales.
